Thursday, May 20, 2010  Congratulations to FF's Chris Bailey and Jacob Johnson for completing Isle of Wight Fire Academy #3.  This was quite a committment, with the course lasting approximately 6 months providing certification in FF I & II, EVOC, Hazmat Awareness and Ops, Rural Water Supply, Mayday, etc. 

Congrats also to Greg Howlett and Chris Bailey for successfully completing EMT-B courses.

Saturday, May 1, 2010  The Chuckatuck VFD will be hosting our annual golf tournament Saturday May 1st at the Suffolk Golf Course.  This will be a shotgun start at 0800.  Your entry fee of $65 per person or $260 per 4 person team includes: green fees, cart, range balls, 3 beverage tickets and lunch.  There will be prizes awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, as well as door prizes.  Contact Brad Whitley at 757-617-1714 for further information.  Hole sponsorship is available for $150 per hole and includes a custom sign with your company name, lunch for two, and recognition at the lunch banquet.  Make checks payable to:

Thursday, February 18, 2010  At 1715 Engine 9 was dispatched with the Carrollton VFD to a reported accident with injuries on Longview Dr in the area of Oliver Dr.  Carrollton 104 (Oliver) was the initial arriving unit reporting a single vehicle off the roadway.  The vehicle was reported to have rolled coming to rest in a swamp about 15 ft below the road.  The vehicles occupant was out on arrival.  Engine 9 arrived and handled pt care.  Carrollton Squad 10 arrived  and handled the transport.  E9 cleared per command.  This call followed a 3 vehicle accident on Godwin that was handled by E9 and M9a.  E29 responded to a medical assist while crews were committed on the Longview accident. 

Saturday, February 13, 2010  The Annual Chuckatuck Fire Department Dance was held February 13th at the Planters Club, with many members and friends of the fire department in attendance.  The night consisted of an excellent meal, an awards presentation, followed by music provided by DJ Jeremy Branch.  Congratulations to veteran firefighter Ronnie Garrett for being the recipient of the 2010 Firefighter of the Year award, as well as the Jacob Johnson for receiving the first Apprentice of the Year award.  These men showed their dedication throughout the year and were recognized by their fellow members for their efforts.  Top responder awards went to: Ronnie Garrett, Ronnie Kelly, and Jacob Johnson.  Thanks to the CVFD Ladies Auxiliary for their help with bringing the event together and to the Smithfield VFD for covering the 9 house for the evening.

Saturday, January 23, 2010  At around 0950 this morning Engine 9, Tanker 9 and Car 109 responded to a reported structure fire as the second due companies in IOW County.  Smithfield (1st due) went enroute with Engine 52 and 53.  Car 309 (A/C Dortch) was the first to arrive finding a one story residence with nothing evident from the exterior.  This house was located down a long unpaved (muddy) driveway, incoming units were assigned to level 1 staging on the paved road.  Members reported a shorted electrical outlet with no extension and cleared all the assigned apparatus with the exception of E52.  309 held command.

Sunday, January 10, 2010 08:09 Engine 9, Tanker 9 and Car 109 responded with the second due companies to a reported chimney fire in the 5700 block of Godwin Blvd.  Caller reported fire venting from the chimney.  E9 arrived to find moderate smoke from the chimney with a light smoke condition in the residence.  E9 stretched a line to the front door and began checking for extension.  Tanker 9 staged with the engine.  Command assigned other incoming units to Level 1 staging.  E9 reported no extension.  Released all the companies with the exception of E9 and M9a.  E9 worked to overhaul the chimney and remove the smoldering material from the woodstove.  Crews operated for just over an hour.  E29 remained staffed in the station.  Car 109 (Parsons) had command.
