E-29 Crew (OIC Lt. Spencer) back filled Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department today during their Open House for the new Station 50. While at the back fill E-29 responded to a reported combine smoldering from an earlier fire. Upon arrival of the combine, E-29 crew knew they were going to need to do a little bit more then putting water on this smoldering corn combine. After a little bit of time of working on a plan to empty over 200 bushels of corn out of the hopper, the crew talked to a local farmer for his advice. The crew then cut a opening in the bottom side of the hopper and pushed the corn out. After wetting down the corn and any hot spots the scene was turned back over to the farmer.
