Workers Comp Update
Thursday, June 10, 2010
-
As many of you know, the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department along with the other volunteer departments throughout the City of Suffolk were limited in our operations on Friday June 4th. This action was the result of a lapse in the workers compensation coverage offered to us as a benefit by the City of Suffolk. The lack of coverage required city administrators to make the difficult decision to restrict the operations of its volunteers for the volunteer’s protection. Our station was staffed by career members of the Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue. The transition was seamless and at no time left the community without fire and ems protection. Through the dedication of city staff as well as members of the Suffolk Fire administration this issue was rectified Wednesday afternoon. At no point did the members of the volunteer fire departments do anything wrong, this was simply an unfortunate oversight that resulted in our departments being placed out of service. As of 2000 on June 9th we are  back on duty providing the professional services that you have been accustomed to for the past fifty six years.

Please don’t forget our bi-annual fish fry this Saturday, June 12th. It is from 4-7 p.m. at the fire station. Tickets are $9 in advance or $10 the day of the event. The menu will include all you can eat tilapia filets, parsley potatoes, hush puppies, coleslaw, and iced tea. Tickets are available from any member of the department or at many of the local businesses.
